Why is My Car Leaking Water?

Are you wondering, “Why is my car leaking water?” If your car is leaking water, it could be no big deal or something serious. Sometimes, the car’s air conditioning system creates condensation. So it’s normal to see small puddles of water near the back of the engine area when the A/C has been running. Also, water near your tailpipe is usually just exhaust condensation and will go away once your muffler warms up. Still, there can be more serious problems with water leaking from under your car. Learn more from the I-95 Toyota of Brunswick service center in Brunswick, and reach out to us if you need a quick inspection.

Identifying the Cause of Leaking Water

Do you see water leaking from under the car while driving around Jesup? Follow these steps to figure out what may be the cause.

  • Place a sheet of white paper underneath the leak. If the fluid is colorful and not clear, it’s likely not water.
  • If the amount of water looks significant, it could be a blown gasket. Look for large amounts of water and white smoke coming from your exhaust pipe.
  • While coolant is usually easy to recognize because of its color, you can always check the coolant level to ensure it’s full. If it’s low, make an appointment with the I-95 Toyota of Brunswick service center.
  • It could also be a cracked windshield wiper fluid reservoir. Sometimes the water freezes in the reservoir, causing it to expand and the plastic container to crack. You can tell it’s windshield wiper fluid if it’s light blue or light green. Wiper fluid leaks are typically found by your front tires.

Whatever you do, don’t continue to drive around Kingsland with a fluid leak because it could be something serious!
